Lace Up Your Elf Shoes: North Lincolnshire Mind Launches First Mental Elf 5K Fun Run

North Lincolnshire Mind is thrilled to announce its first Mental Elf 5K Festive Fun Run on Sunday 30 November, starting from 10am at Central Park, Scunthorpe.

This fun and inclusive 5K invites participants to walk, jog or run the route and festive outfits are very much encouraged!

Mental Elf is a unique event that focuses on bringing people together, not only to fundraise but to raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing. It promotes the benefits of physical activity, connecting with people, and doing something to help others.

Why Mental Elf matters

Winter can be one of the hardest times of the year for our wellbeing. The darker days and financial pressures can leave many people feeling isolated or overwhelmed.

“We’re proud to be hosting our very first Mental Elf 5K Festive Fun Run at Central Park on Sunday, November 30, from 10 am,” said Claire Chapman, CEO of North Lincolnshire Mind. “Being active is a brilliant way to support our mental health—even a short walk can help us switch off, reduce stress, and boost our mood. Mental Elf gives our community the chance to get outside, enjoy the fresh air, and support each other.”

Claire added, “This is a fun event for all abilities. Whether you’re aiming for a personal best or just want a lovely winter stroll with your family, you will be making a massive difference to the people we support in North Lincolnshire.”

The money raised will help fund essential services, including:

  1. Peer support groups
  2. Our late-night phone support line, Safe Space
  3. Other groups and one-to-one services that support local people with their mental health.

Claire concluded, “Every pound raised will help us continue to be there for people experiencing anxiety, depression or other mental health difficulties. No one should face things alone—and events like this help us keep that promise.”

Every participant will receive a medal, goody bag, and a National Trust pass when they cross the finish line. There will also be a prize for the best costumes - so get creative!
