Promoting Physical Activity in Primary Care
21 May 2026, by Suzanne Watson
North Lincolnshire patients are signposted to LiveWell North Lincolnshire under a physical activity initiative (PA) launched within primary care.
Dr Anam Abrar, GP Partner at Ancora Medical Practice and Preventive Lead for NLAG, has led the initiative, beginning at Ancora and is now expanding across North Lincolnshire.
As part of this work, a physical activity poster has been developed in collaboration with the local council. This resource is now being circulated to practices across North Lincolnshire, supporting a shared ambition to build a more physically active population and improve long-term health outcomes.
The initiative has been supported by targeted staff training at Ancora Medical Practice and the development of patient engagement tools, including an Accurx message designed to encourage patients to incorporate physical activity into their daily lives.
The text message features LiveWell North Lincolnshire, signposting individuals to the region’s one stop shop for activities, fitness classes, walks and much more, supporting individuals to find opportunities in their local area.
Physical activity plays a key role in both the prevention and management of long-term conditions, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, musculoskeletal conditions, and mental health disorders. Embedding these conversations into routine care enables clinicians to deliver impactful, preventative interventions.
This work also recognises the importance of staff wellbeing. Encouraging healthcare professionals to remain active supports resilience, reduces stress, and contributes to a healthier workforce—ensuring we are better equipped to care for our patients.
This initiative reflects a collective commitment to prevention, supporting both patients and staff, and working together towards a healthier, more active North Lincolnshire.
